2014 Year-End Wrap-Up

This year, I started up the SKULLFACEASTRONAUT.com site, a branding for my newer movies. The DR. SQUID site is still there, just inside SKULLFACEASTRONAUT.

In May, I had a table at the Cherry City Comic Con in Salem. Had a great time promoting DRIFTER with Bob Olin, selling movies, comics and posters. Met some cool folks and gained a few new people who wanted to be in future movies!

Saw Def Leppard and KISS on my birthday and Alice Cooper and Motley Crue not long after that. Great shows! Plus my son and I met Paul Stanley at a book signing in Portland!

This year I got the rights back to horror script I sold several years back. Thinking of reworking it a little and considering it for a feature. Hmmm...

I co-produced a creepy horror short, SHELTER IN PLACE, written and directed by the talented Steve Sessions. You can check it out right now for free below!

Way back in 1997, I co-produced a fantasy feature with my friend John Bowker. John wrote and directed, I shot it, played a role in it and edited it with John. Aside from a few VHS copies I had made to give to cast and crew, the movie has never been released to the public. Until now. John has given me permission to issue DREAMWALKERS as a special DVD-r release. Details here: http://fandcproductions.blogspot.com/2014/04/never-before-released-fantasy-movie.html

Back in 1999, I acted in a crazy short, SIGHTINGS, that was made by a local filmmaker. Now it's online for the world to enjoy! Fans of BLOODSUCKING REDNECK VAMPIRES will recognize the faces behind Lil' Junior, Mayor Farnsworth, Jean Claude Les Eaux and Cletus!

The World Premiere of DRIFTER was held as the Friday Night Midnight Movie at Crypticon Seattle, May 23, 2014, and it was fantastic! We had a room full of folks and everyone seemed to really dig the flick. We did a Q&A, I had several people come up afterwards to chat about the movie and we gave away some posters.

Speaking of CRYPTICON SEATTLE, we had a fantastic time and here's the trip diary! http://skullfaceastronaut.com/drsquid/crypticon2014/

A ton of people showed up for the Oregon premiere for DRIFTER on June 6, 2014 in Salem, Oregon! We showed the movie, gave away some autographed posters, and did some Q&A!

At the end of the summer, was the Portland Theatrical Premiere of DRIFTER at the Clinton Street Theater. We had a huge crowd, a great Q&A session, gave away from prizes and had a fantastic time.

Actor Bob Olin, who plays the DRIFTER himself, got a great write up that was a carried by USA TODAY! A nice mention of DRIFTER and even a quote by me! Swell! http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2014/04/20/spotlight-automotive-parts-specialist-actor-is-a-man-of-many-parts/7887117/

Back at the beginning of October DRIFTER kicked off the film festival at the SCARE-A-CON horror convention in New York! We were also nominated for best special effects. We didn't win, but it was still cool to be recognized.

Did some nice interviews this year and got some nice reviews as well:

After many years of "post-production hell," BLOOD CREEK WOODSMAN had its World Theatrical Premiere on Nov. 16, 2014 at the Clinton Street Theater in Portland, Oregon. Very happy to have this project, which I shot and directed from my buddy John Bowker's script back in 2009, finally finished and shared with a huge audience. We had a spirited Q&A sessions, gave out some prizes and had a grand time!

During the summer, I shot a fun zombie short, A DAY IN THE PARK, and you can watch it right now for free below!

In October, I made the trek up to Bellevue, Washington for the Mad Monster Party: Shadow Over Seattle horror convention. Here are a few pics, and a bunch more can be found here: http://fandcproductions.blogspot.com/2014/10/mad-monster-party-shadow-over-seattle.html

At the end of the year, I finished the weird horror/sci-fi feature ODD NOGGINS. Plan to have DVDs available and a screening set up in early 2015. Here are a bunch of weird pics!

In the fall, I started work as the artist on the graphic novel DEMONIZED with filmmaker Henry Weintraub. Watch for more news on this as we finish it up in 2015.

Got BENEATH A DEAD MOON up on Amazon and plan to put a few more things up there. http://www.amazon.com/Beneath-Dead-Moon-Bob-Olin/dp/B00PBGP5J4/

In my personal life, cancer seemed to be all around me. I am sorrowful for some losses and thankful for some successful surgery and treatment among lots of family and friends this year. Scary.

While I did finish up a lot of things in 2014, I've got plenty to do in 2015.

Thankful to be here.

Thankful for fun friends.

Thankful.

Made some progress on a bunch of ODD NOGGINS fx shots. Still a few things left to do, but it's close.

I posted a slightly longer version of the zombie short, A DAY IN THE PARK, that  I made to contribute to a kickstarter campaign. That campaign had a limit of 5 minutes. Watch the slightly longer version below!

I can't believe the year is almost over. Lots left to do. More news soon!

Mad Monster Party: Shadow Over Seattle

Back at the beginning of the month, I made the trek up to Bellevue, Washington for the Mad Monster Party: Shadow Over Seattle horror convention.

Here's a bunch of pictures!

Hanging out in the atrium of the Bellevue Hyatt until the con opens...

This way...

A giant Mad Monster greeted you when you walked in.

Angus Scrimm's panel Friday night was very entertaining - that guy has tons of great stories.

Holy cow - a Blackula mask!!!

The Something Weird Video table had this snazzy SLIMER prop on display.

My buddy Mike let us crash at his place and even made us breakfast!

Dale gives bacon the thumbs up!

And this weirdness happened, and it was time to head back to the con...

The Fright Night panel was packed, and was good...

Until these tall-haired people sat in front of me!

Barry Bostwick, Little Nell and Patricia Quinn pose for a photo in the bar.

Rowdy Roddy Piper's panel was insane! My friend Rob said it was the best panel he'd ever seen. Roddy was all over the map, and all over the stage. He acted stuff out, he told hilarious stories, he told inappropriate stories, he told sad stories. It was just amazing.

Angus signed a Phantasm poster for me - that's going in the stairway poster gallery for sure!

I have been a PHANTASM phan ever since I sat cross-legged in front of the TV, alone in dark, watching with wonder as it aired on the CBS Late Movie. And now I have received a hug from The Tall Man!!! A few weeks later, my son was watching the horror documentary "Nightmares In Red, White and Blue" in his documentary class and was able to tell his classmates, "I met that guy! He gave me a hug!"

Pretty good coleslaw at a brew pub.

Costume contest featured Dr. Frank N. Furter next to Sasquatch. Of course.

Barry Bostwick and Little Nell introduce the screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

A dancer enhanced the opening credit sequence.

On Sunday, I got my son a Silver Shamrock Skull mask. I'd better watch out on Halloween.

I picked up some cool DVDs, a t-shirt and even a VHS tape of the crazy awful monster movie BOG!!! And then the party was over, and it was time to go home.
