Wow. Twenty years.
Twenty years ago, I started shooting a short horror feature that mixed X-Files with gore. It was called DIMENSION OF BLOOD and was the first video narrative project that I’d done where I really took it seriously. Shot on VHS. Edited on ¾” tape. VHS copies sold out of the back of Draculina Magazine, and on something called The Internet.
I wrote up a blog post about the first 15 years of “F&C Productions” and you can read that here: http://fandcproductions.blogspot.com/2010/09/15-years-of-f-productions.html
Over the last five years, I’ve caught up on a bunch of old projects, made some old stuff available in new formats, and made several new features.
In February 2011, we held a really fun screening of BLOODSUCKING REDNECK VAMPIRES at the bar it was shot in, in Winlock, Washington. 2011.
The next month, we celebrated the DVD release of DEADLY PREMONITIONS with a fun screening.
Early 2011 also saw the Mid-Valley Video Festival in Salem, Oregon feature the “Welcome Sister” segment of TWISTED FATES.
In April, W.A.V.E. Video started carrying a selection of F&C titles.
Over the summer I shot the fun horror short SCENT OF THE SASQUATCH, which I shared on youtube, and later included in the BENEATH A DEAD MOON anthology.
In September, I was contracted to draw a bunch of monsters for a fledgling horror tabletop game. Alas, nothing ever came of the game, but they were fun to draw anyway!
2011 wrapped up with me making my crime thriller UNDERBELLY available again, with a snazzy new cover and another fun screening!
2012 saw the release of TRULY DREADFUL TALES, a collection of shorts I wrote and had other filmmakers make for me.
The 2012 Mid-Valley Video Festival in Salem, Oregon hosted the premiere screenings of SCENT OF THE SASQUATCH and TWISTED FATES in February, and later, a horror anthology called ABERRATIONS, which I helped produce, came out from writer/director Steve Sessions.
I was thrilled to have TWISTED FATES selected to screen at the 2012 Crypticon Seattle horror convention!
My buddy John Bowker was still busy working on the edit for EVIL RISING and as a result, BLOOD CREEK WOODSMAN had been sitting in line behind it for a few years. In June, my other buddy Mike Hegg offered to help get it together and so for the next year or so, I made many trips up to Mike’s place to help get that massive horror flick put together.
In July, Aintitcoolnews.com reviewed TWISTED FATES! Having been a fan of the site for many, many years, it was pretty exciting to see something of mine on there! I pulled a quote out of it and have used it on many promotions for the flick: “Every scene and every minute of TWISTED FATES oozes a love for all things horror.” Sweet!
In the fall of 2012, we held a premiere screening for a schlock-tastic parody thing I made called BLOODY RED LIPS OF BLOOD, for Chris Seaver’s Warlock Home Video. I pulled out my old giant VHS camera for this comedy which was shot in the spring and summer!
In 2013, I released a DVD of three of my earliest short features, DIMENSION OF BLOOD, MONSTER IN THE GARAGE and CRIMSON HEATHER and even made a couple of special edition VHS versions for collectors!
It was fantastic to hold the World Premiere of BLOOD CREEK WOODSMAN at the 2013 Crypticon Seattle horror con in May!
My horror short SUPERSTAR was featured at the 2013 Mid-Valley Video Festival in Salem, Oregon and it would later be a part of the BENEATH A DEAD MOON horror anthology, released at the end of the year.
In 2014, I started up SKULLFACEASTRONAUT.com as a branding for my newer movies.
Bob Olin and I had a fun time promoting DRIFTER and other flicks at the Cherry City Comic Con in Salem, Oregon.
I also co-produced a creepy horror short, SHELTER IN PLACE, written and directed by Steve Sessions and re-released John Bowker’s DREAMWALKERS as a special on-demand DVD.
Back in 1999, I acted in a crazy short, SIGHTINGS, that was made by a local filmmaker and in 2014, it popped online for the world to enjoy!
The World Premiere of DRIFTER was held as the Friday Night Midnight Movie at Crypticon Seattle, May 23, 2014, and it was a fantastic time!
A ton of people showed up for the Oregon premiere for DRIFTER in June in Salem, Oregon and at the end of the summer was the Portland Theatrical Premiere of DRIFTER at the Clinton Street Theater. In October, DRIFTER kicked off the film festival at the Scare-A-Con horror convention in New York! We were also nominated for best special effects!
During the summer, I shot a fun zombie short, A DAY IN THE PARK, and you can watch it right now for free below!
In October, I made the trek up to Bellevue, Washington for the Mad Monster Party: Shadow Over Seattle horror convention, and got to meet Angus Scrimm from my favorite horror movie, Phantasm!
After many years of "post-production hell," BLOOD CREEK WOODSMAN had its World Theatrical Premiere in November at the Clinton Street Theater in Portland, Oregon.
In the fall, I started work as the artist on the graphic novel DEMONIZED with indie filmmaker Henry Weintraub who was the writer/publisher.
At the end of the year, I finished shooting my super-weird horror/sci-fi feature ODD NOGGINS.
2015 kicked off with the World Premiere of ODD NOGGINS at the very cool Clinton Street Theater in Portland, Oregon.
In March, SCENT OF THE SASQUATCH screened along with some other local shorts and THE BRAIN EATERS at a bar in Portland!
In April I was back at Cherry City Comic Con in Salem, Oregon and was also interviewed on an area public access TV show.
Also in April I started a monthly screening series called B-MOVIES & BEER at the very snazzy f/Stop Fitzgerald’s Pub in Salem, Oregon.
ODD NOGGINS was selected to screen at the 2015 Crypticon Seattle horror con in May.
In June I shot the first segment for a new horror anthology project, BEYOND THE WALL OF FEAR. More segments would be shot in August, September, October and December.
In August, DRIFTER screened in the Northwest Comic Fest Film Fest in Salem, Oregon.
The DEMONIZED graphic novel was released in November and was a big hit! I had a good time signing preordered copies with writer Henry Weintraub as well as doing 5 custom covers for indiegogo supporters!
Also in November, my buddies and I attended the Living Dead Con horror con in Portland, Oregon. They had selected DRIFTER to screen and not only that, I got to have dinner with director/writer/producer Fred Olen Ray. It was a blast!
2015 is wrapping up with Saturn’s Core Audio & Video releasing a limited-edition VHS of MONSTER IN THE GARAGE and ZOMBIE LOVE SLAVE, including crazy cover art and a signed and numbered art card from me.
Also in December 2015, DRIFTER screened at the Geekonomicon in Biloxi, Mississippi!
Twenty years later, I am shooting, editing and distributing on formats that are way different than when I started. But at the heart of it, it’s still the same thing - I still like to make fun horror movies with my friends.
Onward!
